Jeev "disappointed" by first Major failure
Jeev
Milkha Singhs proud Major streak ended abruptly on Friday
when he missed the cut at the British Open.
The Indian star improved by four shots with a second round of two-over-par
73 at Carnoustie but his eight-over-par 150 meant he would not feature
in the weekend of a Major for the first time in five appearances.
Singh, last years Asian Tour UBS Order of Merit champion,
put up a brave fight, shooting four birdies but his card was littered
with four bogeys and one double bogey.
I couldnt get the putts to go in and there was no momentum.
I made a lot of birdies. I tried and I was aggressive but I couldnt
get it into the hole at the right time. Im a bit disappointed
about my Major run.
Normally Im pretty good but I think the British Open
took it away from me. It was good experience, the first time for
me here and I look forward to a lot more, said Singh
With a stiff and cold breeze greeting the afternoon session players
on the challenging Angus links, Singh started with a birdie on the
third but two straight bogeys followed immediately before he picked
up a shot on the par five sixth. His fight to stay in the British
Open all but ended at the 10th which he double bogeyed.
Conditions were tougher today than yesterday. It was windier.
The only thing that I can take out of this is that it was a good
learning experience. Its a tough course, its different
and thats part of learning, said Singh.
Singh, winner of four titles last year, will head to Germany next
week before returning for back-to-back tournaments in the United
States which culminates with the US PGA Championship, the years
final Major.
Then, he will take a short break to ease the aches and pains in
his body due to a busy 2007 schedule. My focus will be to
get back into my routine, practice more and try to get better with
my physical health.
Im getting some minor injuries due to playing too much
and Im going to try and work on getting better. I need rest
and I need to play less I guess, said Singh.
