Randhawa inside top ten in France

India’s Jyoti Randhawa enjoyed a solid opening round at the Open de France Alstom after a three-under-par 68 on Thursday.

Randhawa, a former Asian number one, blasted six birdies against a dropped shot and a double bogey at the par-71 Le Golf National as he was in tied eighth position. He was three strokes behind joint leaders James Kante of South Africa and Welshman Kyron Sullivan.

South African James Kingston endured mix fortunes with a 70 in tied 25th spot alongside Thailand’s Thaworn Wiratchant. Jeev Milkha Singh of India, last year’s Asian Tour’s UBS Order of Merit winner, was even-par for the day in joint 38th place together with Thongchai Jaidee of Thailand.

In a tie for 59th position was Singapore’s Mardan Mamat who shot a 72. India’s Shiv Kapur stumbled to a 75 in joint 102nd place alongside Korea’s Yang Yong-eun and Englishman Simon Dyson.

On the US PGA Tour, Korea’s Charlie Wi drove to a steady start after a four-under-par 68 at the Buick Open.

Wi, the 2006 Maybank Malaysian Open winner, enjoyed a blemish free opening round with four birdies in joint 13th position.

India’s Arjun Atwal, Australia’s Jarrod Lyle, Kevin Na and Daniel Chopra of Sweden all fired matching 70s in a tie for 46th place. Aussie youngster Andrew Buckle was even-par for the day in tied 99th spot while American Rocco Mediate set the pace at the top of the leaderboard with a 64.
