Randhawa stays inside French top ten

India’s Jyoti Randhawa kept up his chase for a maiden title in Europe when he fired a second round 72 for tied eighth place at the French Open on Friday.

The former Asian Tour number one battled tough conditions to remain only three shots behind leader Simon Khan of England after a round that included five birdies, four bogeys and one double bogey.

Compatriot Jeev Milkha Singh, last season’s UBS Order of Merit champion, will enter the weekend rounds in tied 28th place after adding a 72 to his opening round’s effort of 71 while England’s Simon Dyson made the cut after improving by five shots with a 70 to lie in 51st place.

Thongchai Jaidee, Mardan Mamat, Yang Yong-eun, Shiv Kapur and Anton Haig missed the cut.

In the Buick Open, Korea’s Charlie Wi was sharing 20th place at the halfway point after shooting a 70 to follow up on his first round 68. Wi’s 138 total is four behind co-leaders Brett Quigley, Kenny Perry and Jim Furyk.

Japan’s Daisuke Maruyama, a former winner on the Asian Tour, is tied 46th on 140 while Korean American Kevin Na and India’s Arjun Atwal made the cut right on the mark on 141 after shooting rounds of 71s.
