Hend and Randhawa miss out on Open berths

Australian Scott Hend narrowly missed securing a ticket to The Open Championship in Carnoustie at the International Final Qualifying in the United States on Monday.

Hend, third on the Asian Tour’s UBS Order of Merit, fired rounds of 76 and 67 for a 143 total, just two shots shy of the qualifying mark at Oakland Hills. Former Asian regular Daniel Chopra of Sweden also missed out on the same mark after rounds of 67 and 76.

American left-handed Edward Loar, a two-time winner on the Asian Tour, signed in with a 145 total where 12 spots were available.

In England, India’s Jyoti Randhawa, David Bransdon of Australia and Englishman Simon Hurd finished five shots off the qualifying mark at Sunningdale where 16 tickets were available.

Randhawa, who finished tied seventh in the French Open at the weekend, carded rounds of 71 and 70 while Bransdon shot 72 and 69. Hurd was on course after opening with a 66 but fell away with a 75 in the second round.
