Phokeethra Country Club officially opened in Cambodia
The
Phokeethra Country Club, venue of the inaugural Cambodia Open slated
for later this year, was officially opened this month with a promise
of offering its guests a unique golfing experience.
The Prime Minister Samdech Hun Sen presided over the Grand Opening
ceremony of Phokeethra Country Club, Siem Reap, Cambodia on the
April 8 and other guests included His Excellency Tea Banh, Deputy
Prime Minister of National Defense, His Excellency Hong Sun Huot,
Second Vice President of National Assembly, His Excellency Cham
Prasidh, Senior Minister of Commerce, His Excellency Veng Sereyvuth,
Senior Minister, and His Excellency So Khun, Minister.
From Thailand, there are many honorable guests such as General Chavalit
Yongchaiyudh and his wife and also Thai press and journalists such
as Thai Rath, Matichon, Thansetthakij, Siam Turakij Newspaper, Tropical
Magazine and CLEO Magazine Thailand joined the ceremony as
our special guests and press in the same time.
Moreover, Mr. Paul Dubrule, Co-founder of Accor, Mr. Michael Issenberg,
Managing Director of Accor Asia Pacific, Mr. Oswand Pichler, President
Operation TCLK, and Mr. Victor Pang, Vice President Development
Asia, Ms. Htwe Hla Han, Director Event Development of Asian
Tour and Mr. Justin Frizelle, General Manager, Asia South Spirits
of Johnnie Walker also came to celebrate on this grand opening with
us.
The Cambodian Open will be the penultimate event on the Asian Tour
Schedule this season.
Phokeethra Country Club Siem Reap is managed by Sofitel Phokeethra
Royal Angkor Golf & Spa Resort and is led by Mr. Vinai Virapuchong,
President, Mr. Supachai Verapuchong, Managing Director, Mr. Didier
LAMOOT, General Manager, Mr. Serge Rigodin, Executive Assistant
Manager and Maximilian Kaendler, Clubhouse Manager.
The memorable name Phokeethra, derived from Sansakrit
words Bhogi, the powerful Phya Naga serpent spirit and Dhara meaning
a large city. Phokeethra is the city of the mythical
Naga, is a regional legend symbolising peace and prosperity.
In ancient Buddhist literature the Naga was delivered to link earth
to the richness of heaven and, still today. Siem Reap abounds with
myths and carving of this benevolent force.
Phokeethra Country Club is steeped in the history of the region.
Within its grounds stands the magnificent ancient Roluh
bridge dating back to a Khmer expire in the 11th Century AD and
older than the famous Angkor Wat.
The bridge represents the link between the past and the present
day.
Now listed as a historical site in Cambodia, with recognition from
Apsara Authority for the protection and Management of Angkor and
Siem Reap.
