US win Presidents Cup 19 ½ to 14 ½

The United States won their first Presidents Cup over the International Team on foreign soil on Sunday, winning the biennial contest 19 ½ to 14 ½.

Despite a shock defeat to Tiger Woods in the Singles on Sunday, Phil Mickelson, Scott Verplank and Stewart Cink won their matches to complete a dominating victory at Royal Montreal.

Korea’s Choi Kyung-ju, the only Asian in the International Team, produced a 3 and 2 win over Hunter Mahan. It was Choi’s only point for the team after losing in three earlier matches.

Canadian Mike Weir produced an emotional triumph over world number one Woods, sinking a crucial birdie on the 17th hole to clinch a memorable win.
