Chowrasia finding his game again

India’s S.S.P. Chowrasia believes he is back on track as he searches for an elusive Asian Tour title.

The Indian finished tied 16th in the Brunei Open at the weekend and was delighted to regain the form that earned him headlines last season.

Chowrasia said his putting has been a letdown all year but a slight change in technique has rewarded him with a bunch of birdies which he hopes will launch him into contention over the next few weeks.

“I played in the Iskandar Johor Open and it was not one of my best performances. My driving and putting were not very consistent but in Brunei, I made it a point to keep practicing and correcting my mistakes so that I could find my game.

I feel that my practice has paid off in Brunei. I’m also slowly gaining back my confidence, so it has been good,” said Chowrasia.

Currently 60th on the Asian Tour’s UBS Order of Merit, the 29-year-old knows he must regain his consistency to keep his full playing privileges. He will compete in next week’s Midea China Classic in Guangzhou but Chowrasia is eyeing a return to the Mercuries Taiwan Masters.

Last year, he led after the first round in Taipei but he was disqualified after he failed to sign his scorecard. Chowrasia bounced back immediately by finishing runner-up in the Hero Honda Indian Open, losing in a play-off to compatriot Jyoti Randhawa.

“My next event is the Midea China Classic. I’ve also got a new set of equipment coming in and I’m going to work on my swing especially with the new irons that are from TaylorMade.

“There will be a couple of days break between now and the next tournament. However, I’m not taking it as a break as I want to continue to practice hard and get my rhythm and swing back into shape.

“I will also remember to keep my focus and not to make silly mistakes like what I did during the Mercuries Taiwan Masters last year. I made the mistake of not checking my score card and got disqualified. This year, I’ll be very careful and make sure it will not happen, not only for that event but for all the events that I play in.”
