Kapur & Wi will miss US Open but Jeev will play

India’s Shiv Kapur finished two strokes off the mark at the US Open Sectional Qualifier in England on Monday.

Kapur, the 2005 Asian Tour's Rookie of the Year, shot rounds of 73 and 68 for a three-under-par 141 total at Walton Heath Golf Club.

Compatriot Jeev Milkha Singh, the 2006 Asian Tour’s UBS Order of Merit winner, has gained automatic entry into this year’s US Open due to his World Golf Ranking status in 2006. It will be Singh’s second appearance as he had previously competed in all four rounds at the US Open in 2006.

This year’s Major will be played at Oakmont Country Club from June 14-17.

In the Sectional Qualifier in Japan, Airil Rizman Zahari of Malaysia posted rounds of 70 and 74 as he missed the cut after a 144 total with Thai youngster Chinarat Phadungsil finishing a stroke behind the Malaysian. Chinese Taipei's Yeh Wei-tze shot a 73 but was disqualified in the following round.

In Memphis, Charlie Wi, the 2006 Maybank Malaysian Open winner, carded a steady 141 total but ended his run three strokes off the mark. Australian youngster Jarrod Lyle had a slow start with a 77 and finished seven strokes behind the Korean talent after a total of 148.
