Geoff Ogilvy to defend Australian PGA title

Australian Geoff Ogilvy will return to defend his title at this year’s Australian PGA Championship presented by Coca-Cola, and contribute to an exciting conclusion to the season-ending event on OneAsia.

The US$1.2 million tournament will be played from December 10-13 at the Hyatt Regency Coolum, and will also see American John Daly competing.

“I’m really looking forward to coming back home and playing at the PGA Championship,” said Ogilvy.

“My family loves coming to Coolum. The tournament atmosphere is fun and relaxed and it obviously holds very special memories for me as the place where I won my first event as a professional in Australia.”

Ogilvy, the world number eight and the 2006 US Open champion, also recently confirmed he will play in the Australian Open which is being played the week before.

“Geoff’s victory last year was history making as his first in Australia and to have his name on the Joe Kirkwood Cup was as pleasing to us as it was to him,” said Max Garske, CEO of the PGA of Australia.

“Geoff was a deservedly popular champion and we are delighted that he will be back again to defend his title and lead the Aussie charge.”

An Australian had the distinction of winning the inaugural event on OneAsia in April when Scott Strange triumphed in the US$2.2 million Volvo China Open.

The Kolon-Hana Bank Korean Open and Midea China Classic are next on the schedule before OneAsia heads to Australia for the first time.
