Player Views From Round Three In The Philippines February 11, 2012
MARDAN MAMAT (SIN) – THIRD ROUND 70 (-2), TOTAL 209 (-7)
I was struggling with my irons. Hit a lot of fliers. Holed a lot of putts. Putt on number eight was unbelievable that I made it. Yesterday, I hit the ball good but didn’t putt it good. Today, I didn’t hit it good but putted good. It comes and goes. Hopefully both will come together tomorrow.
The winds were a bit higher. They were unpredictable. Before you hit, it’s one direction and after you hit, it is another direction. I can’t make my swing right as the winds kept changing. I’m pleased with the way I putted. I saved a lot of putts. I’m happy.
You don’t know what will happen tomorrow. As I said, this course can make you happy and can make you angry. Both of them shot a 67 and 68, I think that’s a good round with the winds condition. Hopefully it’ll be my turn tomorrow to shoot that number.
I led from start to finish to win the Singapore Masters in 2006. Came from behind to win in India. Shot a low final round.
Just be myself, just play my own game tomorrow. You can’t control the others. In these conditions, you have to make the right decisions. Hopefully tomorrow I can make the right decision.
Vijay Singh still competes well in his 40s. That gives me a bit of motivation. They are still winning, why not me? It’ll be the first time I’ll be playing with Miguel. I’ve played with Mo before.
I have a lot of respect for this course.
Miguel is a good potential. He’s got a good swing and good guidance from Rick Gibson (his coach). He’s certainly an upcoming Asian player.
MIGUEL TABUENA (PHI) – THIRD ROUND 67 (-5), TOTAL 210 (-6)
I’m happy with my round. I can’t wait for tomorrow. It wasn’t easy. I just told myself to stay patient and hit fairways and greens and it worked.
I started out quick. Started out with a lot of birdies, I don’t even remember. It is really hard to make mistakes if you’re in a zone and when you’re in momentum. I had a lot of momentum. I was in a zone. It was fun. It was really hard to make mistakes.
My whole family was here. I wish my sister is here as she’s in the states on her honeymoon. My aunties and uncle were all out. There were like some 20 of them today on the golf course. It was a big help.
I just kept telling myself to stay patient and the putts will drop. I felt like this in the Asian Games when I played well in the first two days. I had a similar feeling.
Try to not think about it. Just play the same way that I’ve been playing and hopefully I will come out on top. There was a lot of pressure especially when you’re playing on home soil. I’m happy I coped with it.
I don’t know how many putts but I took like 20 plus putts only. I was lucky they were ffalling. Some downhills ones. Had a good save on 13 from 10 feet downhill which helped me keep my momentum.
I’ve got nothing to lose. It’s my second year on Tour. I just want to go out there and have some fun. It’ll mean everything (if I can win). I’ve been dreaming about winning this tournament for a long time. I just kept telling myself today that I can win the Philippine Open.
MO JOONG-KYUNG (KOR) – THIRD ROUND 68 (-4), TOTAL 211 (-5)
Not bad going into the last round. Winds started to blow really hard on a few holes and it was pretty tough out there. The front nine, you could make a few birdies as some holes are short but the back nine is pretty tough. I think I played what I wanted. I’m pretty happy with my round today.
Mo Joong-kynug
You never know what will happen. The guys on even par can shoot 64 or 64. You can shoot that on this course. We’ll just have to wait and see.
It was fun watching Miguel. Pretty good for a 17 year old. A good putter. Very determined at what he wants to do. It’ was fun to watch.
I think eight or nine might be the winning number tomorrow. We’ll just have to see what the winds do.
