Volvik Agree With Asian Tour Over Sponsorship
April 18, 2012

Volvik, Korea’s leading golf ball manufacturer, has entered into a three-year agreement with the Asian Tour to title sponsor a new golf tournament in Southeast Asia from 2013 onwards, officials announced today.

Volvik Chairman Moon Kyung-ahn said the group was excited to forge a partnership with Asia’s elite circuit as part of its commitment and vision towards the expansion of professional golf in the region.

It will be the first time a golf ball manufacturer is title sponsoring a tournament on the Asian Tour.

“We are delighted to establish a new alliance with the Asian Tour, which is instrumental in leading the development of professional golf at the highest level in Asia. Volvik has been involved in golf ball research and development from 1989 and it has always been our ambition to support and eventually stage our own professional golf tournament outside of our home market in Korea,” said Moon.

“It will be an exciting journey for Volvik to venture into the Southeast Asian region as we believe it is an area of growth, both from a sporting and commercial standpoint.

“Over the years, we have supported leading players on the Korean Golf Tour and LPGA Tour through individual endorsements and our first foray with the Asian Tour marks a new milestone for Volvik.

“With the global appeal of the Asian Tour and our ability to tap into the Tour’s worldwide media platform, the partnership is a perfect fit for Volvik as we embark on a mission to expand our brand both regionally and internationally,” added Moon.

Asian Tour Executive Chairman Kyi Hla Han welcomed Volvik’s long-term support, saying the three-year agreement was another strong statement towards the cosmopolitan appeal of the Asian Tour.

Han said details of the inaugural tournament will be announced in due course, with the second and third staging of the tournament likely to move around Southeast Asia.

“Our partnership with Volvik, which is a leading brand in Korea, marks another significant development for the Asian Tour. We look forward to a long and fruitful partnership with Volvik. Our players will be delighted to have the opportunity to compete in another brand new tournament on the Asian Tour from 2013,” said Han.

“It is indeed tremendous for the Asian Tour to welcome on board a major sponsor from Korea. We have developed great Korean players throughout the past decade with the likes of Y.E. Yang, K.J. Choi and Noh Seung-yul emerging as world-class stars and we hope Volvik’s involvement will inject a positive effect on our players as we continue to grow and develop professional golf at the highest level,” he added.

Amongst the leading LPGA players who are sponsored by Volvik include Allison Fouch, Lee Jee-young, Bae Kyeong and Pak Jin-young.

Volvik has annually exported one million dozen golf balls, including its multi-layered solid type golf balls, three-layer balls and four-layer balls. It also continues to develop specialized air groove dimpled balls, projection inner cover balls and ring type dimple balls. A unique feature of Volvik golf balls is that it is available in multi colours.
