Victory gives Que a new lease of life
Life has never been sweeter for Angelo Que of The Philippines. His latest home triumph at the Philippine Open over the weekend marked yet another high for the 29-year-old Manila-based Que.
After battling to win his second Asian Tour title at the challenging Wack Wack Golf and Country Club, Que completed a remarkable two weeks which saw him qualify for the British Open and learning that he is going to be a father for the first time too.
“It was a life changing experience when I knew that a baby was on the way two weeks ago. I am not playing for myself anymore as I’m playing for my family now which is added inspiration for me in life,” said the jubilant Filipino champion who tied the knot with his wife Tracy last year.
Que’s latest win in Manila sees him rise up to 20th place on the Asian Tour’s Order of Merit after taking home the top prize of US$47,550.
It has been a dream run for Que so far. But he has also not forgotten how dismal the last two seasons have been for him.
Que posted only one top-10 finish each season and was struggling with his swings, which he felt had cost him several better finishes.
“It’s been tough but I had a lot of friends on Tour who helped make life easier,” said Que who counts Malaysia’s Danny Chia and Singapore’s Lam Chih Bing as his best friends on the Asian Tour.
Que enlisted the help of his coach Bong Lopez to correct his swing and help turn his game around.
Together with his sports psychologist, Andrea Furst, whom he credits for helping him improve his mental strength, Que battled through the toughest period of his life and is now beginning to reap the rewards of his determination and perseverance.
With his latest win, Que also gets to enjoy the flexibility of planning his playing schedule on the Asian Tour and spending more time with his family now.
“I’m feeling overjoyed. I get to play in the HSBC Champions and I get to pick my tournaments this year since I’ve sealed my card for the next two years,” said Que.
“My wife Tracy is seven weeks pregnant so I will get to spend more time with her as a result of this win,” added Que.
After enjoying his recent successes, the rejuvenated Filipino star is now ready to claim further triumphs on the Asian Tour.
With his impending fatherhood on the way too, Que will also be hoping to ride on his rich vein of form to provide his family with a comfortable life that they deserve.
“I love playing golf and earning for them. I aim to give them a good life.”
