Fund-raising day makes S$110,000 for Myanmar and China disaster victims

The Asian Tour’s Disaster Fund Raising Golf Day for Myanmar and China at Sentosa Golf Club on Sunday was an overwhelming success with over S$110,000 raised for charity.

Asian Tour Executive Chairman Kyi Hla Han said the funds will be channelled to victims of the Myanmar Cyclone Nargis and Sichuan earthquake through the Singapore Red Cross.

Both of these countries have hosted important Asian Tour events and Asian Tour players contributed to the fund raising efforts.

Asian Tour stalwarts Lam Chih Bing of Singapore, Myanmar’s Zaw Moe and Australian Gavin Flint played in the charity golf game in a “Beat the Pro” contest while Singapore national team sensations Quincy Quek, Lam Zhi Qin also participated.

“On behalf of the Asian Tour, I would like to express our sincere appreciation to the people who contributed generously towards the success of our fund raising golf day,” said Han.

“Special thanks to Sentosa for its commitment to golf and charity by generously offering the use of its Serapong course on a Sunday afternoon. This contributed to the success of the day and ensured a sell-out. I would also like to mention the generous contribution of the R&A who donated S$20,000 towards this fund raising effort.

“It was tremendous and heart-warming for us to receive such an outpouring of support from our Asian Tour partners, corporations from across the region, golfers and well-wishers.”

“In particular, I would also like to thank our corporate donors, Jurong Engineering, Pseraya Energy, World Sport Group and OAL Builders.”

The team of Eric Lynge, Brian Tracey, Ben Woo and C. K. Kum (pictured) won the top prize on offer which was a day-cruise worth S$10,000 sponsored by Azurea Lifestyle Yachting.

Other donations were made by Entertainment Group Limited, LC Development and Asian Tour player Scott Barr.

Sentosa, Home of the Asian Tour, graciously supported the event through the use of its Serapong championship course.

Asian Tour partner Srixon contributed golf balls and equipment as prizes while Carlsberg, the official beer of the Asian Tour, supported the event by providing its world-famous beverage.

Amongst the other sponsors who have contributed prizes were OGAWA, Pan-West, Heritage Golf, Sentosa Golf Club, Foot Workz, Culina, Sofitel Phokeethra, Alpha Global Distribution, IMG and Parallel Media Group.
