Wi raises hopes at Hope with second 68
Korea’s Charlie Wi moved into the mix at the Bob Hope Chrysler Classic on Thursday when he fired his second straight four-under-par 68 in the US PGA Tour event.
The Asian Tour stalwart posted five birdies and one eagle on the card but dropped three bogeys en route to tied 11th place in the five-round tournament. He trails leaders DJ Trahan and Robert Gamez by five shots.
Compatriot Yang Yong-eun, playing in his rookie season in the US, shot a 70 for tied 56th place while another Korean Jin Park, best remembered for finishing fourth in the Barclays Singapore Open last November, returned a 74 to slip to 88th position.
In the Abu Dhabi Golf Championship, Thai star Thongchai Jaidee carded an opening 71 to lie in 21st position, five shots behind leader Martin Kaymer of Germany.
His score was matched by South African James Kingston, victorious in the recent Southern African Airways Open, while Australian Scott Strange shot a 72 for tied 38th place.
Shiv Kapur of India shot a 74 while countryman Jyoti Randhawa was a further shot back.
