Public to get free entry to Indian Masters

Entry to the forthcoming EMAAR-MGF Indian Masters to be held at the Delhi Golf Club from February 7-10 will be free, organisers announced.

The $2.5 million tournament, promoted and organised by Golf in Dubai, has attracted a strong field which will see world number five Ernie Els, Thomas Bjorn, Mark O'Meara, Darrren Clarke and David Howell among others vying for honours in the company of top Indian players, led by Jeev Milkha Singh, the Asian Tour number one in 2006.

"The very intention behind waiving the entry fee is to encourage golfing fans to come and watch big players, some of them coming to India for the first time, in action," said Mohamed Juma Buamaim, Vice Chairman and CEO of Golf in Dubai.

The move is part of a drive to promote golf and provide a major boost for the growth in participation, which is fast spreading in India and many believe could rival cricket in popularity in the years to come.

"We are working hard to ensure that the event provides a memorable experience to all those who attend. It's really unheard of in the world of professional golf that an event of this stature and class is offered to spectators at no cost," Buamaim continued.

While entry is free, it will be controlled to a limited number of tickets per day.

The EMAAR-MGF Indian Masters kicks off on Tuesday with a Challenge Match, featuring six top players in the field. It will be played on the back-nine of the Delhi Golf Club, allowing golf enthusiasts with a front row seat to witness exciting golf action from a select list of headlining stars that will pair up in the team competition.

The traditional Wednesday's Pro-Am, will offer spectators their first glimpse of players preparing for the tournament on the Lodhi course, but in a fun and friendly atmosphere with their amateur counterparts.
