Lin closes on Order of Merit top ten

Chinese Taipei’s Lin Wen-tang will be giving his wife an early Christmas present after declaring that he’ll be handing her all of his winnings from his latest triumph at the Asian Tour International on Sunday.

“It’s been a great week for me. The win has put me on the right path to my goals this year which is to continue playing well and win more events,” said Lin.

“As for the winnings, I will give it all to my wife,” added the jubilant Lin.

Since his maiden success in 2006, where he won the 2006 Taiwan Open on home soil, Lin has now made it a habit of winning a title every year.

He followed up on that win in Taiwan with another victory at the Brunei Open the following year. With his latest win at the Asian Tour International, the 33-year old has now made it three wins in a row.

Lin, who started in 19th place on the Asian Tour’s Order of Merit before the start of the tournament in Chonburi, Thailand has also now moved up eight places to 11th place on the Order of Merit leaderboard.

The newly-crowned Asian Tour International champion, however believes that he will have to work harder on his putting in order to put up a stronger challenger for the Order of Merit crown.

“My putting has not been the best and I know that if I work at it, I can improve even more,” said Lin.

Korean teenager, Noh Seung-yul meanwhile, is also enjoying an impressive start to his rookie year on the Asian Tour.

Noh, 16, who finished runner-up at the Sail Open in India last month continued to impress with another runner-up finish at the Asian Tour International.

“This week has definitely been the highlight of my short career. A lot of people have told me that it’s hard to hang in there at the top when you are playing on the Asian Tour but I did it,” said Noh who had earlier taken the first and third round lead at the US$300,000 Asian Tour International event.

The Korean youngster is currently lying in 22nd position on the Asian Tour Order of Merit and will be riding on his rich vein of form to challenge for more honours in the coming weeks ahead.

“Although I did not win, I am happy to have led. The past two events has definitely shown me that I can stay among the leaders and I’m eager to head into future tournaments and challenge for the title,” said Noh.

The Asian Tour heads to the Sentosa Golf Club in Singapore for the International Final Qualifying (IFQ) this week, where a total of 67 players will be vying for four coveted spots at The Open Championship.
