Mercedez-Benz Tour headed for Singapore

The Mercedes-Benz Tour will visit the Lion City next month for the inaugural Mercedes-Benz Masters Singapore.

The US$50,000 tournament will be played at Laguna National Golf and Country Club from November 5 to 8 and feature the cream of Southeast Asia’s professional golfers.

The event marks the eighth leg on this year’s Tour and will be a sentimental return to Singapore.

The Mercedes-Benz Tour was launched in Singapore in March and the opening event, the Mercedes-Benz Masters Indonesia was won by Singaporean Lam Chih Bing.

“It has been exciting to watch the Mercedes-Benz Tour perform so well this year and therefore we look forward to welcoming it to Singapore,” said Dr Rainer Thiel, President and CEO of Daimler South East Asia Pte. Ltd.

“As everyone knows the Tour was launched to give more playing opportunities to the region’s young players and from what we have seen so far this has been achieved. The Mercedes-Benz Masters Singapore will provide another platform for us to see some of the stars of the future,” added Thiel.

There have been some outstanding performances on Tour this year with victories by Filipinos Angelo Que and Felix Casas, Malaysia’s Ben Leong and Thailand’s Wisut Artjanawat. All are expected to compete at Laguna National along with host of other top players from the ASEAN region.

Que actually won this event last when it was called the Laguna National ASEAN Championship on the ASEAN Golf Tour. Five successful events were staged last year and because of that Mercedes-Benz came on board as Tour title sponsor.

“We are expecting a strong field for the Mercedes-Benz Masters Singapore. Singapore is a popular venue for professional golfers as indeed is Laguna National Golf and Country Club,” said AC Wong, Chairman, Mercedes-Benz Tour.

Laguna National Golf and Country Club is no stranger to top international tournaments as it boasts outstanding facilities.

“We were delighted to help play our part in launching the ASEAN Golf Tour last year and therefore it gives us even more pleasure to welcome the tournament back under the umbrella of Mercedes-Benz. It promises to be a great week,” said Ben Tan, General Manager, Laguna National Golf and Country Club.

The tournament will be followed shortly after by the Mercedes-Benz Masters Vietnam and the season-ending Mercedes-Benz Masters Thailand – the circuit’s Tour Championship.
