Play cancelled due to bad weather
Heavy
rain and thick fog forced the second round of the US$80,000 LAGT
Macau Championship to be cancelled.
The tell-tale signs of a cancellation was evident as play started
two hours later due to thick fog and heavy rain.
Play then resumed at 1.30pm but was again called off at 3pm as
thick fog enveloped the Macau Golf and Country Club that is located
on a hill.
Tournament referee Douglas Logan then cancelled play and briefed
the players on the next course of action.
He said the second round scores of some players who have already
teed off would not be counted.
It will be a fresh start tomorrow. The tee times will be
drawn based on the results of the first round. I know it was a horrible
day for all of you, the waiting and the disappointment for some
players who started off very well in the second round. We cannot
do anything when Mother Nature intervenes, said Logan.
Ladies Asian Golf Tour (LAGT) chief commissioner Koichi Kato then
said the prize money would be tagged at 50 and ties position.
Meanwhile, Ji Eun-hee of Korea was the biggest loser. The 22-year-old,
who played one-under 70 (par-71 course) in the first round yesterday
shot to the top after posting three birdies in six holes that she
had finished for a joint total of 4-under for 24 holes when play
was cancelled.
I had a very good start, hitting the ball very well and slowly
gaining momentum. Im really disappointed that the second round
was cancelled. Too bad the weather halted my progress. I hope to
keep this momentum going tomorrow, she said.
