Six to watch this week
Adam Scott
The supremely talented Australian will be aiming to become the first man to win three Barclays Singapore Open after his back-to-back success in 2006. He has enjoyed another solid year with one win on the US Tour. Adam is also refreshed and recharged after a short break as he looks for more success at the Sentosa Golf Club’s Serapong course.
World Ranking: 6th
Ernie Els
The big South African has finished runner-up in his last two visits to Singapore and he certainly will be fired up for a big win at the Barclays Singapore Open. He is in good form after winning his seventh World Match Play Championship in Wentworth this month.
World Rankings: 4th
Liang Wen-chong
The Chinese star is the brightest hope for the Asian Tour this week. Liang finished fourth at last year’s event and he has been improving every single week where he has cemented his position at the top of the UBS Order of Merit. Finished tied eighth in Jakarta last week to show that he will tee up in good form.
UBS Order of Merit Ranking: 1st
Phil Mickelson
The American superstar makes his debut at the Barclays Singapore Open and at world number two, he will be the favourite to secure a win. The lefthander has won three times this season despite a niggling wrist injury and will be determined to live up to his star billing.
World Ranking: 2nd
Shiv Kapur
The Indian star enjoys the Sentosa challenge where he finished fifth in the 2005 edition. Coming off a solid season in Europe, Shiv’s straight hitting game could well reap the rewards this week.
UBS Order of Merit: 24th
Vijay Singh
The last time the big Fijian played in Singapore, he left with a trophy. Six years on, Vijay will be keen to repeat as a champion in the Lion City. Singh has slipped to 13th on the World Ranking but has won twice on the US Tour this season and also the Kolon Hana Bank Korea Open recently.
