Event Preview - Four to watch this week

David Howell
One of Europe’s leading stars, Howell played a pivotal role in the European Ryder Cup team’s victory over the USA in 2006. He is also the first English winner since Nick Faldo to win the prestigious 2006 BMW Championship. Howell’s best performance was his third place finish on the European Tour Order of Merit in 2006 and all eyes will now be on Howell to put in a strong performance so as to end the year on the right note.

Paul McGinley
McGinley will always be remembered in Ryder Cup folklore for his winning putt for Europe in the 2002 edition. An experienced campaigner, McGinley has played in three successive winning Ryder Cup teams and he will be hoping to add another title to his eight professional victories to date.

Thaworn Wirchant
Thaworn, a nine-time winner on the Asian Tour will be looking forward to another happy outing in Vietnam. Having last won a title in Hanoi in 2005, Thaworn will be riding on his rich vein of form to repeat that spectacular performance and continue with his impressive track record in the Vietnamese city. Thaworn is coming off an impressive second half of the season where he recorded his ninth career victory at the Midea China Classic and two top-25 finishes in Taipei and Seoul.

Charlie Wi
Wi is one of Asia’s most prolific winners and has been enjoying much success in Asia and the US. Wi successfully kept his US PGA Tour card for 2008 after posting three top-10s and four other top-20s. Before switching his focus to the US PGA Tour in 2007, Wi’s last success in the region was recorded at the 2006 Maybank Malaysian Open where he defeated two-time defending champion Thongchai Jaidee of Thailand. The seven-time Asian Tour winner will be returning to Asian once again to put in another strong challenge for this inaugural title.
