Basic joins leaders with 65 as first round completed
Australia’s Neven Basic joined Thai stalwart Prom Meesawat and Korean rookie Hur In-hoi at the top of the leaderboard after completing his opening round with a 65 at the Pertamina Indonesia President Invitational early on Friday.
Basic, who started on the back nine, closed in with a birdie on the eighth hole before a par on the last placed him alongside Prom and Hur at the top of the pack at the Damai Indah Golf – BSD Course.
Filipino youngster Juvic Pagunsan and India’s Harmeet Kahloon remained in tied fourth a stroke behind the leaders while American Anthony Kang completed his round with a 67 in tied sixth position alongside Ryder Cup star Lee Westwood of England, Korea’s Mo Joong-kyung and Indian trio of Digvijay Singh, Harmeet Kahloon and Gurbaaz Mann.
Despite the suspension on Thursday, Basic, with two top-10s this season, resumed his round early this morning under calm conditions as he enjoyed a solid finish with a birdie on the par five eighth hole.
The 29-year-old Australian was on top alongside Prom who was glad to be back in the leading fray after having struggled with his putting in the past two weeks.
Korean Hur, 20, is enjoying his maiden outing on the Asian Tour having produced two top-10 finishes this year. He shot seven birdies at the par-72 Jack Nicklaus-designed course.
Westwood, who had previously enjoyed wins in Japan, Macau and Malaysia, blasted four birdies in the last five holes on Thursday as he was pleased to continue his good run this year.
