Bhullar and Kang lead after three rounds
Indian rookie Gaganjeet Bhullar struck four birdies on his return to the third round for the joint lead alongside American Anthony Kang at the Pertamina Indonesia President Invitational early on Sunday.
Bhullar, with 10 amateur wins on the domestic circuit, returned on the 13th fairway with a birdie and chalked up three more birdies on the 15th, 17th and 18th holes for a five-under-par 67 at the Damai Indah Golf – BSD Course. He was tied alongside Kang who returned on the 11th hole as he birdied the 16th and 18th holes for a 67 and a 15-under-par 201 total.
Ryder Cup star Lee Westwood continued his third round performance on the 12th hole with two solid birdie putts on the 14th and 18th holes and completed his round with a 70 in lone third position a stroke behind in the US$350,000 Asian Tour event.
Thailand’s Prom shot a 68 in joint fourth spot as he ended his round in the last five holes with a birdie against a lone bogey two strokes adrift. Neven Basic of Australia was even-par in joint sixth position together with Chinese Taipei’s Lu Wei-chih who produced a similar score.
Bhullar, who turned pro in 2006, is eager to tee off the final round and better his third round performance where he shot a total of six birdies against a lone dropped shot.
“I’m excited to tee off the final round. It’s been a great week for me so far and I’ve been enjoying the ride. I’ve watched Lee Westwood on the television when I was young and now I’m ahead of him. It’s a nice feeling,” said Bhullar.
A total of 54 players resumed the third round on Sunday at 6:40am local time which was suspended on Saturday due to inclement weather. The fourth round teed off at 7:50am on Sunday.
