2007 stats crowns on the line at Volvo Masters
With one event remaining for the 2007 season, the Volvo Masters of Asia in Thai Country Club will determine the various winners of the stats categories.
China’s Liang Wen-chong is in line to win the Stroke Average category as he is leading the rankings with an average of 70.30. However, this week’s defending champion, Thongchai Jaidee of Thailand, is a close second with 70.72.
The bragging rights as Birdie Leader is also very much at stake. Presently, Thailand’s Chapchai Nirat, who is also battling for the UBS Order of Merit crown with Liang, leads the birdie barrage with his haul of 292 birds.
Compatriot Thaworn Wiratchant is four back while Australian Scott Barr is third on 287.
Simon Yates of Scotland continues to lead the Greens in Regulation category with a 72% hit rate, followed closely by Shiv Kapur of India and American Clay Devers, who are trailing with 71% greens hit this year.
Thailand’s Prayad Marksaeng is in for a chance to win the Lowest Putting Average as he tops the rankings with 1.73 putts with young compatriot Chinarat Phadungsil a close second with 1.74.
The awards, along with the UBS Order of Merit title, the Players’ Player of the Year and Venue of the Year, will be presented during the UBS Gala Awards night on Sunday.
