Sparkling 66 puts Wu back in charge
Wu
Kangchun shot a sparkling four-under-par 66 to regain control of
the Xiamen Leg on the Omega China Tour today after the third round.
Wu was the first round leader at Orient (Xiamen) Golf & Country
Club following a 65 but slipped back the following day with a 74.
However, the man who won the season-opening Sofitel Golf Championship
stormed back in front with a round made up of five birdies and a
bogey for a three-stroke lead over Shang Lei.
Shang shot a 70, while three strokes further back are halfway leader
Fan Zhipeng and Ye Xionghui.
Fan, who up until last year played for the national amateur team
with Wu, struggled in with a 75 while Ye carded a 69.
I hope to win again, it is a great feeling and has lots of
benefits. I have been very lucky in my first year as a professional.
A lot of people have helped me especially all my friends from my
amateur days who are now also professional, said Wu, who leads
the tournament on five-under-par 205.
In addition to his win, the 26 year old from Zhuhai has finished
in the top 10 on four occasions. He is presently in fifth place
on the Omega Order of Merit.
I had a hot start to the season, faded a bit mid-way through
but Im now feeling very strong this week, added Wu.
Omega Order of Merit leader Li Chao fired a 72 and is seven behind
Wu along with Zheng Wengen winner of the last event in Kunming.
Zheng carded a 71.
Chen Xiaoma had an up and down day. He eagled the par-four first
and the par-five 13th but triple bogeyed the seventh and doubled
the 12th. He finished with a 75 and is eight off the pace.
