Event Preview - Five to watch this week

The EMAAR-MGF Indian Masters tees off this week to mark the start of the 2008 season on the Asian Tour.

With stars from Asia and Europe out in search of glory, we look at some of the top contenders at the Delhi Golf Club.

Ernie Els
After having taken the lead in the third round but finishing tied third at the Dubai Desert Classic last week, Ernie Els will be eager to make amends as he tees off at the Delhi Golf Club. Els, who is ranked fourth on the world rankings, will be hoping to claim his first win this year at the EMAAR-MGF Indian Masters.

Jyoti Randhawa
Having won the national Open twice before in 2006 and 2007 at the Delhi Golf Club, Jyoti Randhawa is tipped to stay on course for a strong finish this week. The Delhi Golf Club has always been a significant ground for the Indian stalwart who hopes to deliver his third win at the Delhi Golf Club.

Jeev Milkha Singh
Jeev Milkha Singh enjoyed a spectacular year in 2006 winning four times across the world and emerged as Asia’s number one. With a co-sanctioned event held at the Delhi Golf Club this week, Singh is hoping to rekindle his form vying to taste his first ever win in front of his home crowd.

Arjun Atwal
The former Asian number one is a crowd favourite having won three times on the Asian Tour on home soil. Playing in United States in previous years, Atwal is set to impress as he will be making his first Asian appearance in more than a year.

Prayad Marksaeng
Prayad Marksaeng will be the top contending Thai star this week coming off a strong performance last year. The Hua Hin-based golfer won the season-ending Volvo Masters of Asia last December which marked a solid season. He registered six other top-10 finishes and was ranked fifth on the Asian Tour’s Order of Merit. It will also be Prayad’s first appearance after earning his US Masters invite.
