Event Preview - Six to watch this week
Scott Hend
The big-hitting Australian posted a top-10 at the BMW Asian Open on Sunday and will head into the GS Caltex Maekyung Open brimming with confidence. The former US PGA Tour player will be eager to land his maiden title after an injury plagued 2007 season and numerous near misses on the Asian Tour.
Kim Kyung-tae
Korea’s Kim Kyung-tae will be among the top favourites returning to an event which he had won last year. He will enter the tournament on a high note having finished runner-up in Japan on Sunday. Kim ended his steady campaign last week a stroke behind Hur-Suk ho. Backed by a solid 2007 campaign, Kim will be determined for a successful title defence.
Mitchell Brown
Having finished in the top-10 last year, Mitchell Brown will be expected to stay among the frontrunners this week. He is riding on a good start to the season making the cut in his first two events that included a tied fourth place performance at the Philippine Open.
Kane Webber
Australia’s Kane Webber, who won the 2006 Macau Open, produced three top-10s this season and is ranked eighth on the Asian Tour’s Order of Merit. He produced a tied seventh at the SAIL Open and chalked up his best result this season when he claimed tied third place at the Maybank Malaysian Open in March. With a steady start this year, Webber will be hoping to rekindle his winning form ahead of this week’s GS Caltex Maekyung Open.
Digvijay Singh
India’s Digvijay Singh got off on the right note this year with a top-five performance at the EMAAR-MGF Indian Masters. At the BMW Asian Open in Shanghai last week, the Indian talent completed his round alongside former Asian number one Jeev Milkha Singh. With his game slowly coming back together this year, Digvijay hopes to continue his steady rise heading into Seoul
Lee Sung
Lee Sung tasted his breakthrough win at the Bangkok Airways Open last year. He will now be eager for a similar magical touch when he tees off at the Nam Seoul Country Club to break his slow start to the season and land his first home success on the Asian Tour.
