MAYBANK MALYASIAN OPEN RELATED STORIES

Scott Barr is finding patience a virtue

Australia’s Scott Barr is hoping that a new-found patience will eventually lead him to a maiden Asian Tour title.

The Singapore-based Barr kept himself on the fringe of contention at the Maybank Malaysian Open when he fired a third straight four-under-par 68 at Kota Permai Golf and Country Club in the third round on Saturday.

Barr will enter the last day in tied sixth place, five behind leader and title holder Peter Hedblom of Sweden.

While it seems an insurmountable lead, the 35-year-old is ready to stay patient in search of glory.

Last season, Barr enjoyed a solid 2007 when he posted six top-10s and he has already enjoyed a strong start to the new season with three good weeks which include a tied 11th at last week’s Johnnie Walker Classic in India.

Barr was six under through 14 holes today and despite bogeying the 15th and 18th holes, the Canberra-born talent is looking to launch a title charge on Sunday.

“I hit the ball well and I putted steady today than the first couple of days. It’s nice to be in this position and if I have a great day tomorrow, anything can happen.

“The course is playing well. It’s not too difficult and it’s lovely to compete here. But it’s tough on the back nine and I didn’t finish too great. But that’s what you expect when you come to Kuala Lumpur or even Singapore. It’s not too difficult yet tricky,” said Barr.

The Aussie said that work with a psychologist has taught him to stay patient in his hopes of landing a maiden career victory in Asia. He has been runner-up twice previously, losing in play-offs at the Macau Open and Thailand Open.

“I’ve just tried to stick with what I was doing last year. I was fiddling with my swing and trying to tidy it up. Mentally I’m better and it sure helps. I’m seeing a psychologist in Singapore and she’s told to take my time and be patient with myself and figure out where I play well. I thought that out and now I’m riding on that here,” added Barr.
