Five to watch this week
Noh Seung-yul
After a stunning week at the Maekyung Open, Korea’s latest young gun Noh Seung-yul is in fiery form this season. He has made headway with two runner-up finishes at the SAIL Open in India and the Asian Tour International in Thailand. He displayed mental strength of a seasoned veteran with a top-10 result at the Asian Tour and European sanctioned Volvo China Open and will be among the hot favourites at the Pine Valley Beijing Open.
Gaurav Ghei
Indian ace Gaurav Ghei notched his third win on the Asian Tour last year and will return in 2008 to defend his crown at the Pine Valley Beijing Open. After producing his only top-10 this season at the EMAAR MGF Indian Masters in February, Ghei will be geared to get back to the leading fray.
Zhang Lian-wei
China’s most renowned golfer Zhang Lian-wei will be determined end his five-year title drought on home soil at the Pine Valley Beijing Open. The five-time Asian Tour winner, whose overall success ignited the growing interest of golf in China, will be eager to impress his home fans and become the tournament’s first ever local champion.
Scott Hend
The big-hitting Australian posted a top-10 at the BMW Asian Open and will head into China brimming with confidence. The former US PGA Tour player will be eager to land his maiden title after an injury plagued 2007 season and numerous near misses on the Asian Tour.
Kim Kyung-tae
Korea’s Kim Kyung-tae will be among the leading contenders after a solid campaign in Asia. He produced a win in Japan last month and will be looking for his second title on the Asian Tour at the Pine Valley Golf Club. He has proved to be a steady talent by winning his maiden title on the Asian Tour in 2007.
