 Event Preview - Six to watch this week

The Asian Tour heads back to India this week for the SAIL Open Golf Championship at Jaypee Greens. With the elite players from the region heading to Noida, a look at some of the top contenders for this weeks’ inaugural US$400,000 tournament.

S.S.P Chowrasia
India’s latest star S.S.P Chowrasia will be on top of the list of title contenders this week after his sensational triumph in India two weeks ago. The Calcutta-based golfer has a proven track record when competing in events on home soil as he previously finished runner-up at the Hero Honda Indian Open in 2006. Backed by his home fans once again this week, Chowrasia will be eager to make it a double success at the SAIL Open Golf Championship at Jaypee Greens.

Mark Brown
New Zealander Mark Brown enjoyed a solid end to his season in 2007 nailing four top-10 finishes in his last five events competed. He continued that form last week when he finished in a tie for fifth spot in Jakarta and will now be brimming with confidence heading into the SAIL Open Golf Championship at Jaypee Greens.

Jyoti Randhawa
With back-to-back wins at the national Open in 2006 and 2007, local sensation Jyoti Randhawa is no stranger to success in India. The former Asian Tour number one will be hoping to improve on his top-10 result from last week as he heads into the Sail Open Golf Championship at Jaypee Greens eager to make it three in a row in India.

Chinnarat Phadungsil
With two top-10 finishes that included a runner-up result last year, Thai young gun Chinnarat Phadungsil will be determined to get off the blocks early this season. The talented youngster has already bagged two titles on the Asian Tour as he will be out to challenge for honours at this week’s outing.

Lu Wen-teh
Chinese Taipei veteran Lu Wen-teh came off a strong season having lifted two titles on the Asian Tour in 2007. He posted five other top-10s that included a tied fifth place finish in India last year. Backed by a solid track record, the 44-year-old will be on the prowl at Jaypee Greens eager for another fruitful week.

Scott Hend
Scott Hend, a former US PGA Tour player, will be geared to return to the leading fray after having recovered from a nagging wrist injury which affected his form last year. The Australian talent will now be eyeing for a top finish at the Jaypee Greens course as the layout is tipped to favour big hitters.
