Jeev and Wi end PGA tied ninth

Indian star Jeev Milkha Singh and Korea’s Charlie Wi ended their Major campaign in a tie for ninth place at the US PGA Championship on Sunday.

Singh, who is a former Asian Tour number one, recorded his first ever top-10 finish in a Major thanks to one birdie against four bogeys for a three-over-par 73 in the final round at Oakland Hills Country Club. He was tied alongside Wi who posted a 74 for a five-over-par 285 total.

Thailand’s Prayad Marksaeng enjoyed his best Major result when he finished in a tie for 15th spot after a 73 for a 287 total while New Zealander Mark Brown improved with a 69 and claimed joint 24th position.

Competing in his maiden Major event, Wi, who was paired with eventual winner Padraig Harrington, hung on under cold conditions in the final round on the way to three birdies against five bogeys and a double bogey.

“I still haven't felt very good in the last couple of days and I thought I found something, but obviously the last round I didn't hit the ball well at all. But I was able to hang in there.

“It was really cool. I was a little bit tired but I feel okay. But I'm tired probably mentally more than physically. I learned that I can compete with the best, and I just need to keep playing my game and keep believing in myself, and I'll be right there again,” said Wi.

Ireland's Harrington recorded his second straight 66 for a winning total of 277 and recorded his second Major success in a row.
