KING'S CUP RELATED STORIES

Event Preview - Five to watch this week

Thongchai Jaidee (Tha)
Thongchai is the clear favourite in the US$300,000 full field event. The ex-paratrooper won an unprecedented third Asian Tour Order of Merit title courtesy of two victories and three top-10 finishes this season. He enjoyed his best finish in a Major tournament when he was placed tied 13th at the British Open in Turnberry, Scotland in July and will aim to further sweeten his year by claiming the King’s Cup on home soil.

Liang Wen-chong (Chn)
Chinese stalwart Liang pushed Thongchai to the edge on the Asian Tour Order of Merit only to settle for second position on US$779,580. Liang has come close on several occasions this season where he has two second place finishes and he will be looking to go one position higher at the King’s Cup. The 2007 Order of Merit winner is riding a rich vein of form after finishing in tied 16th position at the lucrative Dubai World Championship last month.

C. Muniyappa (Ind)
Asian Tour rookie Muniyappa stunned the field when he won the lucrative Hero Honda Indian Open. The Indian golfer edged Korea’s Lee Sung in a dramatic playoff to complete an emphatic victory. Prior to his triumph, Muniyappa’s best finish was a tied 13th place finish at the Brunei Open.

Lam Chih Bing (Sin)
Lam is one of the most consistent golfers on the Asian Tour this season. The Singaporean made 12 cuts in 15 tournaments and rides on the back of a commendable tied ninth place finish in Cambodia two weeks ago. Last year, Lam claimed his long awaited maiden Asian Tour title in the last event of the year and he will be aiming to repeat his success again.

Chapchai Nirat (Tha)
Chapchai, who set a new world record with his winning total of 32-under-par 256 at the SAIL Open in India earlier this season will be one of the favourites at the par-72 course. The three-time Asian Tour winner came close to adding to his victories but had to settle for second at the Iskandar Johor Open in November. He currently sits as the second best Thai player on the Order of Merit in eighth position.
