Event Preview - Four to watch this week

The Asian Tour’s leading players will be back to contend for the US$300,000 SAIL Open at the Classic Golf Resort from March 18-21 when the Tour resumes after taking a one-week break. Asiantour.com looks at the leading contenders likely to put up a strong challenge for the title in New Delhi this week.

Thaworn Wiratchant (Tha)
With 10 Asian Tour victories under his belt, defending champion Thaworn is one of the firm favourites coming into the event this week. He’ll be looking to equal his compatriots Thongchai Jaidee’s record of an 11th Asian Tour victory.

Lam Chih Bing (Sin)
Singapore’s number one finally tasted victory at the season-ending Volvo Masters of Asia last year. However, Lam had to endure a slow start to the season where he has missed the cuts in four of the five events that he has taken part in so far. But given his undoubted talent, Lam should rediscover his winning form again, starting with a good performance this week.

Jyoti Randhawa (Ind)
Buoyed by his recent win at the Singha Thailand Open, Randhawa will be one of the home favourites spearheading the local challenge. The 2002 Asian number one will once again be adopting the same relaxed and composed attitude that saw him claim his eighth Asian Tour win in Phuket and if he plays true to form again this week, a ninth title on the Asian Tour could well be on the way.

S.S.P Chowrasia (Ind)
Another home crowd favourite, Chowrasia created headlines when he beat an elite field at the India Masters last season to secure his maiden Asian Tour title. That victory at home led everyone to take notice of his undisputed talent and with this event taking place in his home country again, the desire to win again in front of the partisan crowd can never be stronger.
