Having played several of the more "exclusive"
clubs in the Truro area, I remain a big fan of Killiow.
I think the main reason is that the round, which takes you
around the old parkland estate grounds, is a real journey
- none of that sense you get at some places that you're just
zigzagging back and forth across a field.
The holes have real character without being too lanscaped
or contrived, and there are lots of big old oak trees to get
in your way. Being set in a steep valley, it's also much more
sheltered from the wind and other elements than many places
I've played.
The only criticism I'd have is some of the attention to detail
- the greens aren't the best I've played, some of the bunkers
have seashells in, etc. -but for me that's more than made
up for by the character and challenge of the course, and the
relaxed atmosphere in the clubhouse. They're a friendly bunch
- not snooty like the local places that throw you off for
the wrong coloured socks.
For me, just the right blend. I've tried the competition,
and I'll be renewing my membership this year.
