With very reasonable green fees (£16) and stunning
views of Dartmoor this course has much to recommend it before
you set foot on the first tee.
At a little over 5300 yds it's by no means the longest of
courses, but a variety of hedges, a quarry and a large selection
of thickset fir trees make it devilishly tricky.
Holes of particular note are the par 5 3rd at about 600 yds
(possibly the longest hole in Devon), the par 4 15th, with
a sloping green that must be surely as fast as the 16th at
Augusta and the par 4 17th, which involves a drive through
high hedges each side and a carry of over 180 yds to clear
yet another hedge.
All round the course the greens are slick and require the
deftest of touches with your putter.
Return to the eccentric friendly little clubhouse with well
stocked bar and a slightly less well stocked pantry (though
the pasties are to be recommended and know that you will want
to come back.
