The course has magnificent panoramic views of the North East coastline and the mouth of the river Tyne. Tynemouth Priory and St Mary's island in Northumberland are in view and on a good day, the Cheviot Hills to the north and the Cleveland Hills to the south can also be seen.
Even without the prevailing westerly winds which often blow here, the 200 year old limestone walls, cleverly placed bunkers and the small, well-guarded greens make it a challenging but enjoyable test of golf for golfers of all standards.

I have
been a member since 1992, during that time the course has
been greatly improved. The loss of the old 18th 475yrd par
4 with out of bounds all the way to the green on the left
is a big miss. Although this is some what made up for by the
12th, a large pond feature in front of the green, in addition
there is the new dog leg 17th and the elevated tee box on
the old 17th (now the 18th par 4). The fairways are tight
and the only easy way to approach the greens is straight on
with the majority of greens being well bunkered. I never tire
of playing the course, as it very rare to have the same weather
conditions. David
