From the north: take a A21 towards Hastings at Johns Cross ( 5 miles north of Hastings) bear right on A2100 towards Battle then take Netherfield Hill road ( .5 mile north of Battle) club is 1.5 miles on right hand side.

I am insenced by my experience with Battle Golf Club!
We booked a room to stay there back in mid-July. Somewhat unusually we had to pay in full upfront. A short while after booking (2 hours or so) we realised that it wasn't in the best location for us and rang up to attempt to cancel and get a refund. We were told the person we needed to speak to wasn't available and we'd be called back. 3 more unreturned phonecalls from us and 3 weeks later we finally got hold of the manager, Clare, who was not willing to cancel our reservation siting a) policy and b) the fact that they'd be unlikely to be able to re-let the room.
When the time came and we took our stay we had a very poor experience. The decor of the room was generally very tired and shabby but the main issue was the bathroom. It was not very clean and full of cobwebs and every time we turned a tap on or flushed the toilet there was a disconcerting grinding mechanical noise. The shower ran cold - and I mean completely cold - and sometimes not at all (!) which led to a very unpleasant start to the day for my wife and I, made worse by the fact that we were provided with just one small, thin towel between the two of us.
There was also a wedding on, on the night of our stay that we were not warned about in advance, with the party taking place right outside our room, which meant we couldn't get to sleep. To add insult to injury, when we were shown to our room on arrival the member of staff who did so told us that wedding guests had been told that the venue was sold out weeks in advance of the wedding with our room obviously booked for us when we were clearly keen to cancel (and indeed he told us that our room had at one point been double booked - an organisational shambles by the sound of it).
So the following morning I went to reception to complain about the room/bathroom. The manager was 'not available to speak to me' but the member of staff on reception apologised for our experience and told us a full refund had been issued.
A couple of days later we realised that a refund had not gone through so I attempted to take it up with Battle Golf Club. Once again manager Clare systematically ignored us for nearly 2 months - ignoring emails and not returning calls. When she finally answered the phone to me she went immediately on the offensive, being unbelievably rude, saying I was serial complainer and questioning my intelligence before I had barely had chance to articulate my complaint. When I did manage to get onto my issue with the bathroom she flat out called me a liar. She refused to acknowledge any shortcomings whatsoever and hung up on me.
Just to briefly give some background, I worked in the service industry for 6 years managing award winning bars and restaurants before doing my current job. I have a deep understanding of customer service and service standards and would never complain without good reason. I have never in all my life experienced such poor customer service from such a second rate establishment as this. They really do not deserve their licence to operate as a hotel.
