Course
Reviews
Set atop
the South Downs overlooking the county town of Lewes, East
Sussex of Brighton, Lewes Golf Club offers magnificent views
of the surrounding countryside. With an underlying chalk base
the course has excellent drainage, and some of the finest
quality greens in the region.
Especially
worth a visit during the winter/autumn months, as Lewes rarely
if ever uses temporary greens.
The course
offers a good physical challenge, with many holes playing
up hill. Buggies are available, but be sure to enquire before
arrival as supply is limited. Hazards are restricted to few
bunkers and there is no water hazard on the course.
The clubhouse
offers great views and facilities, but golfers should be aware
that facilities close after dark. Ashley Head
Lewes is a tough course when the wind blows. The (excellent)
old greens get dry and fast easily due to the rapid drainage.
The course is tough in hot weather, also due to the thick
rough which is very hard to avoid on one or two holes. It
is quite tame in damp and windless conditions, but beware
trying to blast your way around it's relatively short yardage-
many strokes can be left in the rough (or worse the gorse
bushes) and in its well placed numerous bunkers. A pretty,
enjoyable course that commands respect if you want a low score.
Amazing views. Tom Bermingham May 18, 2005
The course is amazing it is a good length with some challenging
holes. The course has a lot of tough lies and very fast greens.
I liked the 7th a very challenging par 5 with wind cutting
across from right to left if you get the opportunity play
the course. WELL WORTH IT! Alan Davis January 28, 2006
