About Castle Point "Canvey Island Golf Centre as well as being perfectly positioned on the banks of the Thames Estuary, has panoramic views over Hadleigh Downs and castle, a beautiful stone 13th century keep and bailey fortress from where Henry VIII watched his fleets go off to war."

"Changeable coastal breezes and a network of open ditches make for an interesting game where club selection is paramount."

Course Reviews

Played this course today for the first time, its a pay and play, however driving range non operational, first nine fairways are a disgrace, very little difference between fairway and rough, I've never lost a ball on the fairway before!! Lost two today. The back nine is a lot better and is in good condition and a joy to play, local players very friendly.
Will not be going back until they get the mower out on the front nine and restore the driving range.
Get your act together Glendale this could be a nice course with a bit of regular maintenance.

Pay and play course with Driving range (now open). Like the last review the fairways and the short rough are pretty much the same. Suffers from the usual municipal problems of non golfers on the course (dog walkers and Jo public alike). That aside a nice cheap course not too difficult for the novice. I'd sooner pay more and see it better kept and the non golfers kept off the course.

Following on from my previous review, I went back!
A lot has been done since the last visit, it is now a pleasant place to play as long as the wind isn't blowing hard. It has some well defended holes and tight fairways on some holes.
As before a very hospitable course to play on. Well done to all those at the course who have turned this place round, will now be playing here on a regular basis, its very good value for money, with very good specials in the winter(cheap food and beer and Wednesday green fees).

Having read some of the reviews about this course I have waited to play it till I saw some positive reviews.
The course itself is in reasonable condition for a municipal course, well manicured and fast greens. It looks like the powers that be have listened to the critical reviews and have taken action. Only one criticism though, the greens were part bleached, dry as a bone and cracking. A bit of a worry this early in the year, especially as there are water sprinkers surrounding every green. It's obviously an improving course that's moving in the right direction. Once they learn how to use the sprinklers that is.

Don't even get out of bed for this one as the course is by far the worst i have ever played, the greens are like the fairways the fairways are like the semi rough the semi rough is like very thick rough and the rough is like the Amazon rain forest, it's a disgrace.
I'm local to the area and have played this course quite a few times over the years  and it has never been the greatest course in the world but i have never seen it in this state, since Glendale took it over it's gone to pot.
They should be ashamed as Castle Point when cut is a very interesting course especially when the wind gets up.
Me and the fellow golfers i were with said that we will never play this course again, as said in a previous post you shouldn't lose balls on the fairway i lost 2.
Stay well away, well until they sort it out that is.
