Course Reviews
Amazing course. lovely greens, best
i've been to so far.
Would strongly recommend. Tom January 30, 2005
A tough course but also good for begginers! With its wide
fairways and large greens you are likely to have a clear shot
to the pin.
They now have Buggies which is a advisable as this is a long
course. A great course to play on for anyone with any handicap
high or low looking for a challenge.
This year the course has had some improvements and its the
best ive seen in it a few years. Ian May 18, 2005
A great course quite challenging well looked after top quality
greens also staff was briliant friendly and helpful go and
have a round you wont be disappointed. Steve Payne September 8, 2005
I played this course on the 1st February 2006.
This is a lovely parkland course. The fairways are quite
wide but if you miss them a high score will develop.
This is not a let rip course. You have to have your thinking
head on for this course. Play smart and you will enjoy yourself.
The fairways and greens were in very good condition considering
the weather we have had over the winter. The staff have done
a brilliant job at keeping this course dry. I played here
four years ago and it was nearly waterlogged, but not this
time. Extra drainage on the fairways and the clearing of all
the ditches has meant the course staying dry and playable.
My only complaint would be the bunkers. There is a lack of
quality sand in them and you will find yourself picking plenty
of stones out of them before playing your shot!
At the moment they have a 'Winter Special' that is unlimited
golf, a bacon sandwich and use of the driving range all for
£10 midweek. This offer is open until Easter. Russell Middleton February 3, 2006
What a change around. Played this course about 10 years
ago and it was like full size crazy golf, with kids shooting
about on their bikes, burnt out cars on the fairways and 6
foot holes dug on some greens. The course has been taken over
by Jack Barker golf (bought of the council) and the place
has improved more than you could imagine. Fairways are excellent,
greens excellent, value for money excellent. Only prob at
the moment is the heavy lorries moving About the Course which
are making the improvements and making sure no one can use
the course as a racecourse anymore.
2 years time this will be one of the best courses in the area
BUT still worth a game and a very hard and demanding course. Mark May 24, 2006
Having played this course 8 years ago it was ok. Like many
of the other reviews it had its problems. I was a novice back
then and it was my first 18 hole I had ever played on. The
thing about this course it had potential and that is something
that stuck with me until today. I have taken golf up more
regular and searched for Risebridge as a course I would like
to revisit. Having read the reviews and the understanding
that Jack Barker had taken the course over I thought it was
time to revisit.
There are some major works being carried out at the 4th so
a dirty track runs along the 1st hole but the new club house
is quaint and the staff excellent. I from memory i knew some
of the holes were difficult but after walking round the course
in just over 2 hours I discovered this place is a real gem.
The fairways are forgiving and the greens are in excellent
shape. With tall tress all around and the new bank being built
along the 4th hole I could not believe i was just on the outskirts
of London. The views from the 8th with the city skyline is
breath taking. I play this course regular now and I am impoving
my game each time. There are some easy holes and some difficult
which mixes my game up and all I can say is congratulations
for turning this course around and making it a place I cant
wait to revisit time after time.
If you want a great day out that's chilled and good members
all around you then try Risebridge. Glynn Judd July 21, 2006
I played this course some 20 years ago when it was quite new... New staked trees and problems with local youths on trials mycs etc...
It's come a long way since then. Now the trees have grown it's become the toughest course in Essex... Some very long holes, and well thought out bunkers and water hazards... Will be interesting to see the layout after all the lorries and landscaping has finished... If it was a private course it would have tremendous potential... Great views over the city of London... but not a course I would recommend for someone starting playing the game...
I don't know what the course record is, but I reckon most pros would struggle to break par. Jim December 13, 2007
Quite frankly appaling. The course itself is mundane and uninspiring not surprising considering it runs along side a motorway. Condition of the course is poor, fairways should be preferred lies all year round but no sign to say this and the greens are like shagpile. There seems to be little or no thought or no budget in theis course and it is typical of many municipal courses as there are no facilities for people to change. Avoid this course like the plague unless you want to dredge around behind people wearing jeans and playing tag with buggies. John Goodridge October 14, 2008
