This was the second golf course built in Vilamoura, it was designed by Frank Pennink in 1976.
It was remodelled and refurbished by Robert Trent Jones Jr. in 1985.

Pinhal is typified by rolling parkland terrain covered with numerous umbrella and Atlantic pines that line many of the fairways and a few even stand out on fairways or near greens.
Ponds and a stream come into play on five holes but are not serious threats to above-average golfers. To keep up with modern technical advances in clubs and balls, several holes have recently been lengthened and the par-72 course now measures 6,353 metres off the white tee markers.

Reviews
Have played Pinhal twice and its rates a nice course but not the best in Villa Sol. I found it rather sandy on the fairways and they are not in Great condition.
It is a rather spread out course and suggest a buggy to get round.
I would play the course again as there are some nice holes, but as i said i think the fairways could be better.
The clubhouse is nice but the cost of everything does not imo match the experience i have had there. A trolley was 9 Euro's i think when i last went and a buggy 50 euros a round.
Pinhal is a good round but imo not the best in the Algarve.
