I am a 18 handicap golfer and a member of one of Australia's top 5 golf clubs. I am now living in London and had not played golf for 12 months. I have friends coming over to play the courses where the British Open has been played so I thought I should get in some practice. For £5 for a bucket of practice balls, and £5 for a round of golf on mown grass, Otterbourne represents exceptional value for the social golfer, or someone like me, who wanted practice on a course at a very cheap price. I teed off at 6:30pm in late spring, as a single golfer, the last in the field, by 3 or 4 holes. I played 2 to 3 balls on each hole, and caught the tail end of the field on the 8th hole. The VERY friendly staff asked me to lock the gate as I left, which I did. It does not pretend to be a top shelf course, but as I said it is exceptional value for its price.

I have to say after reading the previous review i was very skeptical about going to Otterbourne, but my skepticism immediately went as soon as i walked into the club house. the staff were very accommodating and polite and it was the most warming and happy atmosphere i have seen in a long time. i used to play golf years ago, and have recently wanted to get back into the swing of things. as otterbourne is a 9 hole golf course, and what i remember it was a great place to practice without all the stuck up atmosphere which you get from other golf courses, i thought it would be perfect for me and my friends. we ended up going round twice and had a really enjoyable afternoon. i cant wait to go back and i would recommend this golf course for anyone wanting a relaxing and enjoyable afternoon of golf. i don't usually write reviews but i thought that i would write this one to give this course the feedback it deserves.

Arrived at Otterbourne Golf Club today 18/3/15 at 1140AM as part of a group of 4. (Age ranging between 17 - 24) All dressed in smart golf attire and in good spirits, we decided to play somewhere different today as we normally play at Paultons every wednesday and we fancied a cheap change. \\From the moment we stepped inside the clubhouse we were challenged by the rudest of men, questioning if we all possessed our own golf bags, yes we did. But the rude man continued to challenge us on this and began saying that we were being facetious. (What else could we do but laugh when the man doesn't believe we all have our own bags but declines invitations outside to see them for himself) \\So after his spell of irrational rudeness and name calling he decided that we were not worthy of playing on his £5-a-round course which is ideal for beginners because we did not all possess our own bags. WHEN WE DID!\\\\ We're not beginners but isn't it a bit unfair that even beginners must have their own bags to play on a farmers field? \\\\When told we weren't allowed on the course we immediately phoned Chilworth Golf Club who were very helpful and understanding of our situation and were kind enough to book us a tee time and offer us discount for our trouble despite not being linked to Otterbourne anymore.\\ Whilst we were on the phone to Chilworth, the rude man from Otterbourne swallowed his pride and came out to the car park where we were, and proposed that if we could prove we have 4 golf bags he will allow us to play the course. I was more than happy to prove to him that we had 4 golf bags and lifted the boot of my car and my friends car, surprise surprise... 4 bags! but the damage was done, why would we satisfy him by giving him our money after the way we were spoken to.\\ By the looks of other golfers that we saw at Otterbourne it would seem the rude man in the clubhouse does not like anyone under 50 on his course. because of the irrationality of his rudeness and the age of all the other happy golfers, we were made to feel the victims of an ageist attack.\\ I have played golf since i was 7 years old and i am now 20. I know the rules and etiquette and I have respected every golf club I've played at. After today I am confident that I will never return to Otterbourne, which is a real shame as it was one of the first courses I ever played.\\ Luckily the day was saved by the guys at Chilworth Golf Club where we all enjoyed a good round.\\\\ AVOID AVOID AVOID Otterbourne.

£5 a round now and if you get there at about lunchtime you can have the course to yourself. Although the course is short, there are one or two quite challenging holes, esp. 5 & 6, five being a blind right-angle and six with two trees barring the way to the hole. Contrary to one of the above reports the staff are quite charming.
Anyway it's good golf for a fiver.
Marking it out of ten for a club isn't really fair 'cause there's just a shack with a loo and some basic facilities where you pay greenfees.

Treated exceptionally rudely. The inconsiderate behaviour of the staff ruined our sociable game of golf. I would never play here again.

Slopey greens, but very good condition.
Excellent value for money.

£5.50 a round, £5 for members - what a bargain! It is short, and does not have any holes beyond 400 yds, but the 9 holes are all challenging in their own way.
Good use of mature trees, and ball losing rough make for accurate tee and approach shots to quick and tight greens.
Also, relaxed dress code. Golf as it should be - game first!
