Reviews
Having played this course for many years as a day out with my friends to celebrate my birthday. In the past we have all enjoyed the experience of playing at Ashridge. We had two tee times booked on the 5th November 2010 for eight players.
On arrival they were not aware of our booking but after I suggested that they check there emails for all the correspondence and confirmation of the booking they could not have been more apologetic.
We paid our green fee which amounted to over £450 for the eight of us. On arrival to our first tee we noticed that the greens had been recently holotyned. No mention was made of this at the time of the booking nor was it mentioned at the time we paid over our green fees. We mentioned this to the starter and he suggested that we should discuss this with the club secretary after our round of golf. The greens were terrible and not really conducive to having a good day on the dance floor. After spending 4 hours in the pouring rain I paid a visit to the club secretary to inform him that we were not happy as we had not been informed either prior to our arrival or at the time of making payment that the greens were in a terrible state due to the recent maintenance work undertaken. He was not interested in my complaint and insisted that all courses undertake this type of maintenance this time of year. So from that I have to assume it was all my fault for not knowing this. We all know different golf clubs have varying maintenance schedules so to use this as an excuse I feel is very lame. He was unwilling to offer us anything in compensation and no sincere apology was forthcoming.
I sent all the management team at Ashridge an email on the 8th November and as yet not one of them has even bothered to reply or confirm receipt of my email while they look into it.
I believe that all Golf Clubs should inform paying guests of any major maintenance works so the paying customer can decide themselves whether they want to play or make alternative arrangements.
Due to the way we have been treated we will not be going back to Ashridge in a hurry. On a more positive note I must compliment all the staff we came into contact with as we found them very friendly and helpful.
