Course Reviews Played only once in a Charity Day as a guest. First impression suggested that Dunscar was a real hidden gem of a set up. Fine Club Houses, excellent facilities and above all very warm and friendly members. However the playing layout is an acquired taste. The first three holes are well laid out, from then on the course opens out into what I can only describe as a large undulating park, consisting of a series of narrow fairways the "up and down" design makes the course very tight in parts, which on the day I played meant that you really had to have your wits about you as stray balls seemed to be crossing fairways far too often to be comfortable. I don't think I have heard the word "fore" shouted so many times. But to be fair a charity day is not a great representation of golfing prowess.
No one should doubt that Dunscar is a well maintained track, and playing to your handicap is no "gimme". Tight fairways in close proximity may not be to everyone's taste but it certainly makes you concentrate on your game. This is a Golfers venue, not a Leisure Trip Hack.
TIP : You will need to be invited to play, so ring ahead and check if you are not the guest of a member.

A very hard course with narrow fairways and a lot of out of bounds, in the middle of the country side with not a road in sight, with a cinematic view of the west penine moors and snowdonia in Wales. A real beauty.
