Woodhall Spa
(Lincolnshire)

Simply awesome... loved every second of my round despite the golf! With a Lancaster bomber (from the RAF memorial flight) flying overhead we played the Hotchkin course. It was immaculate and the bunkers were proper bunkers...right amount of sand... and very tough...take your medicine! The greens, tees and fairways were simply fantastic... it really is a must play!
The clubhouse itself was excellent... go for the Spa breakfast on arrival... very good value! For such a top venue it was very understated and welcoming. I guess this is what you get from the EGU!
Overall having played the Belfry, Wentworth, Woburn and others in that grade the Hotchkin at Woodhall was my best experience (though my worst score... its a true test!) Looking forward to returning to play the Bracken course as soon as possible!

Ashbury Golf Hotel
(Devon)

For a golf tour this is a superb venue.  The website is very honest.  It is about the extent of golf available and not the hotel.  I wouldn't take my wife here for  leisure break but for a tour it is perfect.  Great value for money.  Rooms are clean with controllable heating for drying clothes quickly. On a negative they insist you only use the buggy paths which waste a lot of time.  Perhaps in the summer they let you use the path until the position of the ball and then drive on the fairway which would be better, we played in a wet spring so the rule was understandable.  The practise range and putting greens are completely inadequate though only 8 driving bays and a very short range.  For the number of courses this element must be improved.  Best course is Oakland and Kigbaire but all are good and challenging whilst remaining playable.  The local rule of dropping out from tree plantations is excessive on some of the more established tree areas as there is no penalty but again understandable for new trees.  The bar/restaurant is like an old clubhouse and coud do with a freshen up and it shuts way too early at 12 midnight given that 99% of the guests are men on golf weekends.  Golf buggies are very cheap at £10 for a round and
beer and wine in the restaurant is also fairly priced.  These niggles are very minor though.  Superb.

Victoria Golf Club
(Vilamoura - Portugal)

Recently played this wonderful course (early April) and the whole experience was a pleasure from start to finish.  The holes 11 and 12 bordering a large lake are what golf dream are made of.  Lots of more great holes and  definitely one to add to your note book. The staff were fantastic and our group of 12 had a fab day.
Keep up the great work folks at The Victoria.

Risebridge
(Essex - England)

I played this course some 20 years ago when it was quite new... New staked trees and problems with local youths on trials mycs etc... It's come a long way since then. Now the trees have grown it's become the toughest course in Essex... Some very long holes, and well thought out bunkers and water hazards... Will be interesting to see the layout after all the lorries and landscaping has finished... If it was a private course it would have tremendous potential... Great views over the city of London... but not a course I would recommend for someone starting playing the game... I don't know what the course record is, but I reckon most pros would struggle to break par.

Stilton Oaks
(Cambridgeshire - England)

Stilton Oaks is a wonderful course, which is divided into two halves, one standard flat 9 holer with enough challenge to keep it interesting, and the back nine going up, and then down the hill (wonderful views btw!). The rough is certainly that, we lost quite number of balls here! It is challenging and frustrating and yet wonderful!
Also, the welcome we received was excellent, with the greenskeeper taking time out to give us a little talk round the course and some helpful advice. I'm going again very soon!

Hoebridge Golf Centre
(Surrey - England)

HGC is a fantastic place to play and enjoy Golf. The condition of the course is the best around for the money, and the fact that it is a pay & play. I became a member in May 2005 just because the greens are unbelievable!! I have become a single figure golfer due to the greens. Now I can putt on anything! It's worth a visit, if only for the greens. The facilities are second to none with a new short game area allowing you (as a member) to practice the vital short game skills that get you H'cap down. The course itself is well laid out and  means you use almost every club in the bag. The next stage of improvement is the bunkers. It's a must play.

The Kendleshire Golf Club
(Gloucestershire - England)

Wow,wow, and wow. What a course. Having been to Bristol for a golf weekend and played The Players, The Park and the Kendleshire it was by far the most challenging. With superb greens, great fairways and well placed bunkers, oh did I not mention the water !!!!!
The four of us who enjoyed our weekend all agreed that the Kendleshire topped the lot with every hole offering diffferent challenges. If you want a top course this is the one.

Llanymynech Golf Club
(Shropshire - England)

This is a testing challenging and at times unforgiving course, and having played it for the first time yesterday it proved daunting at times, especially at the highest point at around the 11th, 12th and 13th where the wind can sweep away even good drives into the oblivion of woods and bushes that the course has to offer.
But having said that this course is a sheer delight and I would gladly welcome the opportunity to play here again as it tests all the skills that the game has to offer. If you're a high handicapper like me then bring plenty of balls (and rent a buggy - the course is exceptionally undulating). Some of the holes will make you want to cry, but the satisfaction of par-ing a testing hole such as the 18th makes it all worthwhile. There are so many views to behold on this course, my favourite being of the crag on the right of the 18th green which must be a bottomless pit for lost balls.
The club itself has the friendliest members I have ever encountered (every one I met said hello) and the catering and hospitality are at odds with the stuffiness and snobbery that is often associated with private clubs. Everyone here can be rightly proud of providing a haven of warmth and friendliness (and a full English breakfast with smoked bacon - none of this salty yet tasteless catering nonsense you usually get).
To anyone who is a member of a golf society that can get to the Oswestry Area in about an hour and a half, get yourself down here. It's a day out that you will remember with some affection. And your game will only improve for the experience.
As a footnote, membership comes with no joining fee if you're looking to join anywhere in this neck of the woods. If I didn't live so far away I would join in a heartbeat.

Foxhills Golf Club
(Surrey - England)

Visited this course as part of a weekend golf break and thoroughly enjoyed every minute of it. That may be a bit of lie as there were times when I considered never picking up a golf club again, however it did seem to coincide with being surrounded by enormous pine trees and deep undergrowth!
Both of the 18 hole championship courses are similar in layout and equally difficult. There is no mercy for the wayward hitter and a good supply of balls is recommended. The condition of the courses overall was very good however there were a lot of unreplaced divots and pitch marks which is probably due to the amounts of corporate golf the courses have to deal with (but don't let this put you off).
The golf club/hotel is situated in beautiful, quiet surroundings kept to the highest standard. It's difficult to believe you are just 5 minutes from the M25.
The rooms were very comfortable and tastefully fitted, the food/drink was impressive and not too overpriced. This experience has definitely encouraged me to arrange further breaks at other locations - a must try!

One&Only Le Touessrok
(Mauritius - Indian Ocean)
An amazing course, would recommend to all. I play off 15 and had the round of my life shooting an 82 (+10). Designed by Bernhard Langer it oozes quality from the practice ground to the final green. Condition of the course was great even though repairs were taking place. Long carries on nearly ever hole (spare balls a must), sometimes playing blind shots. A great day from start to finish.
The staff are friendly and buzz round in their buggies to ensure your round is as enjoyable as it can be.
