About the courses

*The Hotchkin Course is renowned for its formidable bunkers and narrow fairways, most visitors will remember the panoramic views of the 11th and the charm of the short 12th hole.
It was recently voted the best inland course in the UK (Golf World Magazine 2006).
It has hosted many top national and international amateur events
*"The Donald Steel designed Bracken course opened for play in 1998 complements the Hotchkin perfectly with its large undulating greens and numerous water hazards. During construction great emphasis was placed on the ecology of the course with many species of wildflowers introduced and local wildlife habitats secured."

Reviews

I am currently a junior member at this club (July 2001). I have found that since the E.G.U. made Woodhall their headquarters the courses have become both harder and of a higher standard. They are popular with many visitors from around the world. They always comment on the difficulty and depth of the bunkers on the older of the two courses, known as the Hotchkin after Colonel Hotchkin. Both courses are always in superb condition and both provide a testing round of golf in beautiful woodland and heathland surroundings.

Played the Hotchkin course in beautiful sunshine and 28 degrees in June. Stunning course in fantastic condition. Firm fairways and cavernous bunkers made every shot one that had to be thought through and the obvious play discarded as that would lead to disaster! A memorable experience and one that I look forward to repeating.

Hotchkin: Best Course ever played, best course in England, unquestionably one of the finest courses in the world.

The Hotchkins is the best golf course i have ever played. If you are looking for a great golfing environment then this is the place.

I am junior member of Pannal GC and I played the Hotchkin course on June 5th 2005. It was certainly one of the toughest course I have ever played in England. The bunkering was superb and to top it off, the course was in great condition. I am definitely going to play this again!

Simply awesome... loved every second of my round despite the golf! With a Lancaster bomber (from the RAF memorial flight) flying overhead we played the Hotchkin course. It was immaculate and the bunkers were proper bunkers...right amount of sand... and very tough...take your medicine! The greens, tees and fairways were simply fantastic... it really is a must play!
The clubhouse itself was excellent... go for the Spa breakfast on arrival... very good value! For such a top venue it was very understated and welcoming. I guess this is what you get from the EGU!
Overall having played the Belfry, Wentworth, Woburn and others in that grade the Hotchkin at Woodhall was my best experience (though my worst score... its a true test!) Looking forward to returning to play the Bracken course as soon as possible!

A very good course, but not as good as they think. It is advertised as the best inland course in the UK, but it is not even close to Sunningdale or Wentworth, let alone Gleneagles or Blairgowrie.
Bunkers are tough, but greens were poor and fairways quite wet.
