Couldn't
get on our usual course (Bowring, Huyton) one sunny day and
so decided to try Sherdley out. We weren't disappointed at
all. I thought I'd gone to an Art Gallery. The course is in
the middle of a local park but you wouldn't know. It plays
well, the staff are very friendly and the 19th is a definite
after 18 holes on a scorching July day.

A course I have played many times and still enjoy today.
It gets a little boggy in the winter but is a joy to look
at and play in the summer. The green staff keep the course
looking magnificent all year.

A delightful parkland course in the heart of the industrial
North West? Are you kidding? Well, no actually. Sherdley Park
is one of the best municipal courses I have played anywhere
in the UK. The par 71 course sprawls itself over several acres
of woodland with each hole having its own unique features.
Generously wide fairways do not unduly punish the high handicappers,
but even scratch players will do very well to finish under
par. Two par fives, a sprinkling of par threes and some short
(but challenging) and not so short (and still challenging!!)
par fours make sure there is something for everyone. Big hitters
beware - this course can bite. The course has held a multitude
of opens, charity competitions and the South Lancs, and still
the course record is only seven under. Blast your way around
you cannot. The course can become boggy in winter, but on the
whole it is a well cared for, well presented and thoroughly
enjoyable course. In the heights of summer, I defy anyone
to play the 14th hole and believe they are less than a mile
away from an industrial heartland. Majestic.
