All 18 holes are of a level, heathland nature with the firm, fast greens a particular feature.
The Club has hosted many major events, both professional and amateur. These include the Dunlop Masters, the English Amateur championship, the British Youths Championship, The Commonwealth Ladies Tournament, and most recently (in 2004) the English Boys Open Strokeplay Championship.
We played this a few years ago, and then recently. Considering the weather, the course has improved hugely. It is a good but fair challenge, varied holes and the need to play all types of shots. We were warmly welcomed and were most impressed with the clubhouse, the food and, especially, the course. The greens were smooth and quick, the approaches a delight and bunkers well positioned. It must be one of the finest courses in the north-east of England.
We are going to hurry back.
