My Goodness what a track this is. Located just eight miles south of the Home of Golf this course compares favourably with its more illustrious neighbour, in fact for the golfing purest this may well be a better course to play; historical precedents accepted (dedicated fairways and no shared greens). Playing over 6,500 yards from the recreational tees Kingsbarns presents a testing 4 hours of links Golf in surroundings that will inspire and excite you too want to play links golf whenever and wherever you can.
Although it is not of absolute necessity to hit the ball long, accuracy is essential if you're not to find yourself in deep trouble. Stay well away from the Bunkers these 'holes in the ground' are not to be trifled with. Once on the greens your will need a deft touch as they can be extremely fast. The Barns is not a 'hackers' course and without any manner of doubt more suited to the 0-12 handicapper.
Playing off 8 handicap on day one - the day was bright with a slight wind and I was ecstatic with my 75 net (par 72) ON DAY TWO the wind was a tad stronger and my previous 75 net climbed to 81 net and I was still pleased. The Wind is a big factor So I would advise that perspective players keep up to date with the weather forecast because if it gets very windy (and it can) you may well need a calculator rather than a score card. Nevertheless no golfer should be put off from playing this majestic layout. Kingsbarns will soon become an Icon of Scottish links Golf and a must play if you have the opportunity.
For your Information. You must book well in advance, and be careful to tell the booking office of your specific requirements. Take your Credit Card this is not economy class in any respect. Ensure you have adequate clothing irrespective of the time of year. The Club house and Pro shop are business like rather than friendly this is not a criticism it is a reflection on the many different people and nationalities that come to play the course. At all times the staff are instructed to conduct themselves in a professional manner after all a day's golf here will set you back over £120.00 ENJOY.
