| Playing on the Saphire course at Hill Valley was a completely enjoyable experience. From the phone call to book a tee time to the final stroke to achieve a par on the 18th. The friendly staff in the pro shop were more than helpful. The course played well and I wasn't held up even when catching up with a group in front on two occasions who were more than happy to let me play through. 10 of out 10 for the whole experience.

The Emerald course is superb. The greens are well kept and the whole course beautifully manicured. A good test of golf.
The Sapphire course is disappointing. It is poorly maintained and more of an obstacle course than a golf course. Such a pity.

Just returned from a golf break at Hill Valley and wanted to praise the hotel, staff and golf courses. Being a Macdonald hotel, the quality is very high and the staff were all very friendly and polite. 10 out of 10. We played both courses and found them to be real tests. Despite this being the start of Autumn, the conditions of the courses were fantastic (although a leaf blower would have been appreciated on the greens by the early morning greenkeepers). The Emerald doesn't play as long as its yardage suggests but is a good test. The Sapphire is a strategic course - I used my driver 3 times off the tee. Of course, I would play it different if I had played a few times before but that's the thrill of playing new courses. On our experience, it was a very worthwhile venue and we would have no hesitation in recommending it.

Played the Emerald course in Oct 2008 and really enjoyed it. The course was in superb condition, is well laid out, with fairway markers at 100,1 50 and 200 yds which i liked. A lot of tree lined holes so can be easy to get into trouble off the tee. An easy walking course which would be ideal for a weekend break as the facilities are top class. A course i'd definitely play again.
