Course Reviews

PLAYERS Stadium Course, TPC Sawgrass

Less than 2 months after booking a 5 night 'Stay & Play' package at the Sawgrass Marriott Resort, I was standing, knees trembling, on the tee box of that infamous 17th island hole...130 yards but enough to fill me with fear. Fortunately only one of my Pro V's found the watery grave and I ended up with a 5. To be honest, the rest of the course was in terrific condition. I especially loved the Par 5 11th, which I reached in two great shots (only to 3 putt) and the intimidating final hole, which plays into that magnificent new clubhouse. The renovations have obviously worked a treat because the greens were so fast and true and, with my expert forecaddie Howard, I even managed to birdie the 10th hole, with a ten-foot putt. Dozens of long bunkers and freshwater lakes dominate the course, and the welcome I received on the 1st tee made me feel like a PRO straight away (until my first drive found trees)!

Secretly, I was also hoping to spot a gator on the way round, but they must have been sleeping in.

Incidently, I also played Dye's Valley the next day which is the other TPC Course at Sawgrass and thought it was just as enjoyable. Again, I had a wonderful caddy and yet managed to find the water on no less than 6 occasions! The only difference...no 17th to dread on the way around!
A must-visit venue for true golf-lovers!!
